In Afamia Stone, we take great care in providing the best installation methods for our customers. The following is samples in the installation of flatwork and verticals:
Choosing modified thin-set, mud and grout when installing stone has a proven track record of limiting efflorescence. As an installation principle, all thin-set should measure at least ⅜” and not exceed ½”.
Using anti-hydro in mud and other setting materials stops efflorescence. As an installation principle, mud should not be less than ¾” in thickness.
Afamia Stone believes that inspection of the work with punch-out lists is just as important as the installation.
Choosing the right Stainless Steel brackets, screws and pins for vertical stonework preserves the stone from unnecessary rust.
The correct sloping installation for balconies is paramount in limiting water retention. Combining installation work with waterproofing is essential.
Slope and drainage installation is just as important for steps. Setting a ⅛” slope on steps, balconies, patios and pool decks combined with caulking all joints at ¼” x ¼”, protects the stonework for years to come.
As an installation principle, Afamia Stone recommends that all concrete blocks or poured concrete should be waterproofed with cementitious mix or rubber coating to cut off any path for efflorescence. This ultimately protects the stone and investment for all our customers.
